My wife Sheryl & I went to the Boulder County Republican Assembly in April 2010 hoping only to gain a place on the list to be alternate Delegates to the Republican State Convention. We did that OK, but then: As the meeting progressed, I realized that there were seven county offices for which there was no Republican challenger to the Democrat incumbent. My nomination and unanimous induction as the Republican candidate for Clerk & Recorder (followed by a standing ovation for my ad-lib speech) came as a complete surprise to me. I never dreamed of ever being a candidate for public office. The office of C&R is probably the highest (and most powerful) elected position in Boulder county. What have I done??? A young fellow, Greg Carlson, was nominated as a candidate for Boulder County Treasurer. But - get this - he later declined that position and publicly volunteered to be my Campaign Manager! Greg is in his early 20s and the recently elected (by landslide) president of the Colorado University Student Body. He is a triple major (math, economics, political science). He has already been Campaign Manager for several other successful candidates. He helps manage a $32 million dollar student budget at Boulder CU. He is a man on fire, gifted with skill and dedication. I am humbled at the trust, blinded by the Light... It was awesome to see others then step forward to challenge the Democrat incumbents for four more of the otherwise unopposed Boulder County offices. Those people, plus all the eager young participants like Greg, give me assurance that our Republic is still safe and that the Flag is still there. God Bless America. My campaign is about this straight-up message: - I AM OF THE PEOPLE. - I AM A CONSERVATIVE. - THE CONSTITUTION IS MY SECOND BIBLE.
