(1) Secure bike well, then raise rear wheel 1-2" off ground. (2) Remove ALL: Spark plugs, plastic top covers, & valve covers. (3) Put tranny into top gear (rocking raised rear wheel by hand helps). (4) Put a straw or chopstick down one Spark Plug hole. (5) Rotate rear wheel forward and watch the straw move. (6) Find the correct Top Dead Center (there are two for each piston). TDCs are when max straw is visible outside cylinder. (7) CORRECT TDC is the COMPRESSION TDC ("CTDC"). (8) CTDC will be the highest point of the piston in its stroke, between when the intake (rear) valve has just closed and BEFORE the exhaust (front) valve begins to open (CTDC is about the point at which that cylinder fires). At CTDC there is no valve spring loading on the cam, the pushrods, or the rocker arms for that cylinder. (9) Visually verify CTDC with slight rotations of the rear wheel each way. (10) Grab each valve tappet above the valve stem and push/pull it up and down. You should be able to feel a small "click" of movement on both rockers. No click means your valve(s) clearance(s) are set too tight. Too tight (no click) is worse (burns valves) than too slack ("big" click). (11) Adjust clearances for both valves at CTDC for each cylinder. (12) Repeat Steps 4-10 for the other cylinder. VALVE CLEARANCE Guzzi 750cc 0.006 inch (0.15 mm) intake 0.008 inch (0.20 mm) exhaust ENGINE REMOVAL http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=82076.0 (excellent pix) http://s1138.photobucket.com/user/hatihati/slideshow/2016-03%20V7C%20Clutch%20repair Engine & GEARBOX LUBRICANTS http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=65372.0 http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=62888.0 http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=63047.0 http://forum.guzzitech.com/forum/215/12136 Engine OIL fyi from API: http://tinyurl.com/jng7oqx GEARBOX OIL CHANGE http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=69542.0 http://www.flickr.com/photos/sign216/sets/72157626993357143/ http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=63976.0 Red-Line tranny lube: http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=68135.0 Note: Fill gearbox on sidestand. The bolt in the bottom of the fork that holds the damper rod in place (head exposed when you remove the axle) can by loosened while the forks are still on the bike. Do it before you remove the fender/fork brace and the forks won't turn while you loosen the bolt. Loosen the top cap as well and you don't need a vice for anything. You do need an 8mm allen to reach those bolts in the bottom of the forks, but about 3" is long enough and that's a pretty common tool. The rear brake, on the other hand, gives the power and feel you’d expect from its 260mm size and a single-piston floating caliper. Notably, the rear caliper uses Ferodo ID 450 pads, so Ferodo’s front pads should also be a good choice, and we’d urge a switch before waiting for the stockers to wear out. The new steel tank brings with it metal construction that allows for a lighter tank along with a greater fuel capacity – the V7 Stone can hold a record 5.8 gallons which, together with reduced consumption, ensures a range of up to 310 miles. ===================================================================== http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=74484.0 "It's a stretch to say there are differences in any of the small blocks since the 2004 Breva. Single throttle body and 2 hp is the BIG one. They parade a new look every year however. The '04 Brevas/Nevada's were flawless. They had some growing pains with the STB ECU mapping for a time.
