Personal Notes on the "Frantic" CD - Dan Martin 02-22-1998 Soon after I received the "Destination Frantic" CD I decided to make a cassette tape of the contents. At the time I had an integrated 6-CD changer & cassette recorder. I believe it was a BSR re-branded to DAK. Side A of the Maxell XLII 100 Tape is a recording of the "Destination Frantic" CD (86/500) on which thirty "60's Garage-Bands" tracks have been compiled. The Blue Velvets "Don't Leave Me this Way" is cut #16. Side A of the tape contains cuts 1 thru 21. Side B begins with a reprise of "Don't Leave Me This Way" followed by the "Some Other Time" cut which we considered to be the true "Side One". Both were recorded on this tape from one of the original George Damon acetates and feature Mike Bashwiner on vocals. Tracks 22 thru 30 of the "Destination Frantic" CD immediately follow. Seeing lots of good mylar remaining on the cassette, I decided to add some more music from my collection of misc 45's. First off is "Summertime" and "Baby What's Wrong With You" by The Blue Velvets as taken directly from a Damon "metal" acetate master. Both feature Tom Moran on Vocals. Immediately thereafter is "Baby What's Wrong With You", as originally done by Lonnie Mack in 1963 and subsequently covered by the Blue Velvets. I think you will recognize his influence on/in my guitar solo. An interesting, almost surreal thing occurred while I was putting Lonnie's cut on the tape: I glanced at the tape counter and it was reading 1957 - 1958 - 1959... I thought 'My God, it's counting the years of my life...' Immediately, it seemed, the count was up to 1978 - 1979 - 1980 and I thought '...maybe it IS counting the years of my life.' I noted that the song was close to the end. 1997 - 1998 - 1999 The main part of the tune was over (how true) but the background was still strong (oh _yes_). 2005 - 2006 - 2007 the fadeout ending had begun... Well, the fade out lasted until 2030. Although I would/will be 90 in that [still] distant year, I guess almost anything's possible... Other late 50's and early 60's 45's uncoiled onto the tape: Harlem Nocturne, Earth Angel, Luicille, Rumble, others. And suddenly it was all over in mid-Sleep Walk. And I think that's exactly how The End for us will happen on this earth. Dan Martin
